Pregnancy Ultrasound Scans
In pregnancy, ultrasound scans are used to determine the estimated due date and to check on your developing baby.
Many pregnancies have a number of ultrasounds. The first is generally at 9 – 11 weeks, to examine the early structure of baby. Another may be performed to determine any risks for chromosomal abnormalities at about 12 – 13.6 weeks. More detailed ultrasounds occur at 19-21.6 weeks to thoroughly examine the structure and development of your developing baby. You may also have ultrasounds during the third trimester to assess growth and placental function.
Ultrasound is a safe, painless and non-invasive method of viewing internal organs for the purposes of diagnosis and measurement. It is completely safe to use during pregnancy. Parents-to-be enjoy being able to witness the growth and development of their baby throughout the pregnancy.
Gynaecology Ultrasound Scans
For gynaecological purposes, ultrasound scans can be used to detect the presence of pelvic lumps, causes of abnormal bleeding and pain and possible reasons for infertility such as endometriosis, fibroid cysts and adhesions.
