Folic acid supplementation in pregnancy has reduced the incidents of neural tube defects. A new study has also shown the benefit of fish oil supplementation in pregnancy, recommendation is for women to take either two serves of fish a week or for all pregnant women to try to achieve Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) intake of at least 200-300mg per day. Iron supplementary of 30mg per day during pregnancy is highly recommended as well.
