Specialty: General and High Risk Obstetrics, Office Gynaecology, Menopause and Hormone Replacement, Vulva Dystrophies and Vaginal Discharges, Adolescent Gynaecology, Colposcopy and Abnormal Pap Smears, Abnormal Bleeding and Hysteroscopy.
Dr Tuicolo obtained his primary medical degree at the University of Queensland in 1975. He undertook Specialist training both here in Australia and in the United Kingdom. He then worked in Fiji and England prior to returning to Australia to settle in Portland, Western Victoria as a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in 1988.
He worked at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in 1989 and 1990 before returning to Portland in 1991.
Dr Tuicolo moved to the Fraser Coast in 1997 as Consultant and Specialist at both Maryborough Base Hospital and St Stephen’s Private Hospital. He became Senior Clinical Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology attached to the Southern Clinical School of the University of Queensland Medical School, based at the Logan Hospital, between 2000 and 2006, when he moved to Private Practice at the North Brisbane Private Hospital and gradually built up his practice since 2001, ultimately moving out in 2006. He is currently in his 14th year of practicing at North West Private Hospital.
The doctor is well versed and skilled in both operative and high risk obstetrics with a special interest in gestational diabetes, multiple pregnancies and hypertension in pregnancy. Dr Tuicolo also offers the option of a safe vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC) and safe alternative managements of breech presentations, particularly in mothers who have previously had normal vaginal births.
Apart from excellent skills in gynaecologic surgery, Dr Tuicolo has special interests in office gynaecology which includes the menopause, colposcopy and smears, contraception and family planning, vulvar dystrophies and vaginal disorders, adolescent gynaecology, abnormal uterine bleeding and early investigations of infertility.
Dr Tuicolo loves and adores working in Women’s health. He feels that it is a privilege to assist pregnant women through pregnancy and childbirth by providing expert advice and treatment in a caring and professional manner.
He communicates well with his colleagues and other members of the health care team to provide a high standard of care expected of him.
He regards the safety and the wellbeing of his patients, particularly the mother and baby, as paramount. He is committed to the maintenance of high professional standards of care in order to ensure this outcome. He believes that essential to this, is the relationship of mutual respect between patient and doctor based on effective communication.
He regularly attends medical conferences, clinical meetings and workshops to update his surgical skills and knowledge which is essential to maintain his professional standards.
Dr Tuicolo is married with four grownup children and three grandchildren. He is a committed family man who adores a closely knit and loving family and is a doting grandfather.
Away from work he is a keen gardener and listens to traditional folk music. He is a keen rugby union follower. He is a Community Leader, respected by all three levels of Government. His opinions are often sought by government officials on matters of grave concern regarding ethnic community relations here and abroad.
He is the President of the Fiji Community Association of Queensland, and was the foundation Chairman of the Pacific Islands Reference Group, the peak reference body liaising between the government and all non-English speaking nations from within the Pacific basin.
Being a religious man reflects in his personality. Warm and kind-hearted, he is forever ready to help others, often at his expense. He donates to numerous non-governmental organisations and charities twice yearly and commits to the future of the Medical School and the training of future doctors. He donates annually to the Medical School Appeal Fund.
Dr Tuicolo is easy going and enjoys a laugh. However, he is meticulous with details, a good listener, and is focused and serious when the situation demands it.
